As a divorce and family law attorney in Fort Wayne, at The Bellinger Law Office we handle many unpleasant situations that can be very difficult to go through for those involved. Divorce and child custody battles are often tough on both parents and children, and no one really ever wants to go through these kinds of experiences in their lifetime. While most issues we handle deal with divorce and divorce-related matters, we also assist people with other family law matters, including adoption. In many cases adoption is a very positive thing for those involved, and in Indiana the adoption rate is among the nation’s highest.
That’s according to a recent report from the National Council for Adoption. According to the council, Indiana has the fourth highest adoption rate in the entire country per live births. In addition, the state also has the ninth highest rate of non-marital birth adoptions and the 11th highest adoption rate for every 100,000 adults. According to one adoption agency, part of the reason Indiana rates so high in adoption numbers is because state laws are very “adoption-friendly.” In fact, those laws contributed to the state having an average of more than 3,600 adoptions every year between 2009 and 2013.
In many cases, adoption is a very positive move for both adults and children. However, as with many family law issues, there are several legal matters that need to be settled in order for adoption to take place. That’s why it’s a good idea for anyone who is considering adoption, or considering giving up a child for adoption, to speak with an experienced family law attorney before getting too far along in the process. As mentioned, there are important legal matters that must be resolved, and in order to have a positive outcome these matters need to be taken care of through the proper legal channels.
At The Bellinger Law Office, we have years of experience handling adoptions and adoption-related issues. We are especially experienced with stepparent adoptions. If you are considering adoption in Fort Wayne, from either side of the equation, you should contact our law office today. We can help you throughout the entire procedure and make sure you are prepared to handle each step of the process properly.
