There are a lot of issues to consider when you file for divorce. Will I have to pay or seek spousal support? Who will get to keep the house? Where will I live after the divorce? What about the kids? Who gets to keep all of our property? The list goes on and on. While some of these issues can be resolved jointly and amicably, often both parties just can’t agree on these things. That is when things can get heated and when the court has to step in.
Although he has been down this road before, actor James Caan has reportedly again decided to end his marriage to his fourth wife, Linda, after 19 years of marriage. All of Mr. Caan’s previous three marriages also ended in divorce, and this is the third time that he has actually field for divorce from his current wife. Both of the previous filings were later dropped after the couple decided to reconcile.
According to reports, the couple previously walked this path in 2005 and again in 2009. The couple has two children together, although one of them is 19 and no longer under their custody. The couple also has a 16-year-old son together and the actor has reportedly asked for joint custody of that son. According to reports, despite this being his fourth marriage, the couple does not have a prenuptial agreement in place.
Meantime, according to another report, Ms. Caan is fighting her estranged husband’s request for joint custody, as she apparently has asked for sole physical custody of their son. She is also reportedly seeking spousal support, according to court documents. However, Mr. Caan has asked that her right to spousal support be terminated. Obviously, because there is no prenuptial agreement in place, this situation has the potential to be hotly contested and turn into an ugly battle.
